“This is not a history lesson. We are just giving you a visual.” “History and fashion just keeps reinventing itself, redoing itself, and it’s just what you extract from it that you want to use and you hopefully in a different way.”
Emmy season is officially underway, and we here at Awards Buzz had the absolute pleasure of sitting down with Emmy-nominated costume designer John Glaser from the hit Netflix series ‘Bridgerton’.
Our conversation dove into his recent Emmy nomination for ‘Bridgerton’, his innovative approach to blending period costumes with modern fashion, and the highly collaborative nature of his work. John also shared insights into the distinct roles of a costume designer versus a stylist, his detailed process for creating character-specific looks, and how his experience on ‘Bridgerton’ compares to his previous project, ‘Gotham’. We even touched on his personal fashion preferences, his reasons for avoiding vintage clothing in his designs, and his valuable advice for aspiring costume designers.
We are thrilled to share this delightful interview with you! Check it below:
“A costume designer has to help tell the written story and give the visual look for the show. A stylist has to tell a different story. He’s telling a story about that person, and it’s different than telling a story about an entire show.
