Oscar Predictions: Best Casting

Nominations for the 98th Oscars will be announced in 24 categories on Thursday, January 22nd. This is the first year of this category, which is the first new addition to the Oscar lineup since Best Animated Feature in 2001. A shortlist of ten films has been announced.

The shortlist:

Robin D. Cook (Frankenstein)
Nina Gold (Hamnet)
Jennifer Venditti (Marty Supreme)
Cassandra Kulukundis (One Battle after Another)
Gabriel Domingues (The Secret Agent)
Avy Kaufman & Yngvill Kolset Haga (Sentimental Value)
Francine Maisler (Sinners)
Nadia Acimi, Luis Bértolo & Maria Rodrigo (Sirât)
Allison Jones (Weapons)
Tiffany Little Canfield & Bernard Telsey (Wicked: For Good)

It’s hard to know what films will make the cut given that there’s no precedent for this category. The Critics Choice Association combined Casting and Ensemble into one category with six nominees – Hamnet, Jay Kelly, Marty Supreme, One Battle After Another, Sinners, and Wicked: For Good, with Sinners winning. The Casting Society of America has seven feature film categories in its Artios Awards, with room for Frankenstein, Hamnet, Marty Supreme, Sentimental Value, and Wicked: For Good from among the Oscar-shortlisted possibilities.

Predicted nominees:

Nina Gold (Hamnet)
Jennifer Venditti (Marty Supreme)
Cassandra Kulukundis (One Battle after Another)
Avy Kaufman & Yngvill Kolset Haga (Sentimental Value)

Francine Maisler (Sinners)
