As Stuart Heyford, deputy chief of mission at the US embassy in London, Ato Essandoh says working on Netflix’s The Diplomat is a “dream job.” His enjoyment of the role is palpable. Audiences were left on the edge of their seats after the massive explosion at the end of season 1, wondering if Essandoh’s character would survive into the next.
Thankfully, season 2 saw Stuart’s return. Crutches in tow, Stuart works through his resentment towards Kate Wyler [Keri Russell] in season 2, while we see him sort through the ups and downs of his relationship with Eidra Park, CIA station chief [played by Ali Ahn].
Essandoh recently sat down with Awards Buzz to discuss his reaction to the season 2 finale, the humor and fun he had on set, and some of his favorite moments.
