Season 2 of the crime-comedy series Deli Boys is now streaming with all 6-episodes on Hulu
Turns out inheriting a criminal empire was the easy part… and more money really does mean more problems!
About ‘Deli Boys’ Season 2
This season on “Deli Boys,” which premiered today, Thursday, May 28, on Hulu, the Dars are drowning in dirty cash as Philadelphia’s sketchiest crooks begin to circle. The second season introduces Max Sugar (Fred Armisen), a casino king and money launderer who becomes Lucky’s new crush, turning their professional relationship into a chaotic situationship. Meanwhile, Raj (Saagar Shaikh) plots revenge on Ahmad (Brian George), Mir (Asif Ali) attempts to expand DarCo without causing its destruction, and Philly D.A. Andrew Chadwater (Andrew Rannells) hopes a high-profile bust will secure his path to becoming mayor.
The six-episode binge-release delves into the complexities of success, exploring how “thriving” can be more problematic than merely “surviving”. Showrunner Michelle Nader noted that while season one focused on the family getting to know their business, season two escalates the stakes, hitting the ground running with a “breakneck” filming schedule that saw all six episodes shot in just six weeks. New addition Andrew Rannells describes his character, Chadwater, as an “unhinged” and ambitious narcissist, marking a departure from typical roles by focusing on the character’s misguided corruption rather than his sexuality.
The half-hour series was created by Abdullah Saeed and developed by Jenni Konner and Nora Silver under Jenni Konner Productions. Michelle Nader serves as showrunner and is an executive producer alongside Saeed, Konner, and Silver. Check out full exclusive interviews with Michelle Nader and Andrew Rannells below.
Michelle Nader explained why audiences across the globe resonate with the family at the heart of the show: “I think people really responded to the core trio of Lucky, Raj, and Mur as a family. This is a family comedy whose business is crime, and that was something we were able to really lean into. And yes, it’s a Pakistani family, but it’s a family that everybody can relate to. It features brothers quarreling and vying for a top spot while their auntie keeps them in check. It is universal for a lot of people.”
Andrew Rannells shared what he enjoyed most about portraying his character, Andrew Chadwater. As an openly gay actor, Rannells noted that while 99% of the roles he is offered are for gay characters—which can be frustrating at times—he particularly appreciated this role because, although the character is gay, his sexuality is not the focal point of the story.
The ‘Deli Boys’ hit Broadway!
Ahead of the Season 2 premiere of the Hulu comedy series, stars Asif Ali and Saagar Shaikh made their Broadway debuts in Disney’s hit musical, Aladdin. Their appearance marked the first time two South Asian actors made this special one-time cameo in the production, joining Genie (Caleb A. Barnett) as Game Show Hosts during the show-stopping number, “Friend Like Me”.
Following their debut, Sonya Balsara (Jasmine) invited the two to bow with her during the curtain call. This milestone visit comes ahead of the full six-episode second season of Deli Boys premiering today, May 28, on Hulu.
