Shortlists for twelve categories for the 98th Oscars have been announced in twelve categories. NEON was the big winner of the day with five of its titles making multiple lists, led by Sirât, which managed five mentions despite being the only one of the distributor’s titles not to be nominated in a top category at the Golden Globes. Both Sinners and Wicked: For Good were cited eight times across seven eligible categories, including new category Best Casting and newly-shortlisted category Best Cinematography, earning double bids for original song.
It wasn’t a great day for The Testament of Ann Lee, which was omitted from all categories. Other notable misses include key mentions for Avatar: Fire and Ash, Jay Kelly, and Wake Up Dead Man. The Marvel Cinematic Universe didn’t do particularly well either, earning just one shortlist spot for the original score for Captain America: Brave New World. From among the documentary feature contenders, presumed frontrunners Orwell: 2+2=5 and The Tale of Silyan were both left off.
